JEA GAWP 2024 Fall Conference
GAWWA is excited to add a new competition, Hydrant Hysteria, for Georgia in addition to Top Ops, Water Taste Test, and the Meter Challenge.
What is Hydrant Hysteria?
Hydrant Hysteria is a fast-paced competition that tests teams’ abilities to assemble a fire hydrant quickly and precisely.
Each team consists of two competitors and one coach, racing head-to-head against the clock for the lowest assembly time.
It’s not just a race against a clock; it’s an event that fosters camaraderie and showcases the expertise of water utility professionals.
State winners will be awarded with a trip to AWWA’s Annual Conference and Expo (ACE25) in Denver, CO to compete at the national level.
Who can compete?
Anyone with a current AWWA membership can register. Each team shall consist of no more than 2 competitors and a coach. The two competitors must be both males or both females. The coach may be either male or female.
When and where is the competition?
The first annual Hydrant Hysteria competition will take place April 15-16, 2025 at the GAWP Spring Conference in Columbus, GA.

A Brief History of Hydrant Hysteria
The competition was conceived by Michael Ramsey, retired Public Works Director of Westmont Village in DuPage County, Illinois, who sought to create a team competition similar to Meter Madness (now known as the Meter Challenge). The inaugural Hydrant Hysteria Competition took place in Illinois in 2013, followed by the first national competition in Philadelphia in 2017 during AWWA’s annual conference, ACE. This year, 47 teams vied for the prestigious top three trophies, with winners receiving a free trip to the following year’s ACE conference.
